A day of rest

After furiously canning yesterday and scrubbing tomato pulp and seeds from the floor, ceiling, and counters the tomato skins in the garbage can finally stopped laughing at the mess they'd made.  I decided to take it easy today.  I slept late and made a big lunch for my family - cornbread, dumplin's, hominy, canned green beans and potatoes, cukes and onions in vinegar, and garden fresh tomatoes topped off by a big glass of iced tea.

I still need to sweep and mop the kitchen floor, but I decided to tiptoe out to my flowers and snip a few to bring inside.

The boys are outside so it's the perfect time to get the kitchen floor clean.  Too bad it will only stay that way for a short while.

I planted those candystripe zinnas thisyear. I put in lots to have the cut flowers. You are way ahead of me, I froze some blueberries and thats all for this year. Getting lots of tomatoes so will hope to set some aside.

Hey Steve, aren't the candystripes beautiful? I'd never grown any until last year. I've been contemplating what to do with all the tomatoes I have...I'm thinking of roasting them but not sure how to can them after that.

Your flowers are so pretty. You have been canning, canning and canning! You deserve a rest. Tomatoes are so messy, but that's okay, since they taste so good.

Your lunch sounds absolutely amazing! With summer here I often forget how to cook and shove sandwiches out the back door!
Those are lovely blooms...and I hear you on the floors. Clean ones never last;))

Loved your flower pictures. I'm jealouse - mine have been neglected during the hot summer days. Looking forward to seeing you this weekend. Mom
