Did you ever . . .

This morning I got to school early.  Earlier than any of the traditional age college students.  I sat in the unlit classroom and just listened.  The sounds of a train rumbling by outside made the squirrels and blue jays come to life on this misty cold morning.  Miss Barbara was emptying the trash cans in the classrooms as she struggles to push the big rolling can down the empty hall way and it clicked and groaned on the old tile floor.

A few more minutes and the halls will be full of hopes and dreams, and laughter, and whispers about last night's escapades.  I enjoy the silence.  Did you ever just sit and listen to it?  The silence has many stories to tell but you have to listen carefully.  It tells of times past, of memories forgotten, and on a rare occasion it whispers grandly about the future.

Did you ever just stop and listen?

The silence makes us appreciative.  It makes me appreciate the giggles.  It makes me appreciate the tears.  Listen - can you hear it?  The silence has a voice if you just stop and listen.

Have a wonderful day!

What a charmer, and great thoughts. We sometimes don't take the time to listen to all around us and miss out on the simple things of life.

Hi Cathy, Thanks for coming to my blog. I hope you return often. I am impressed that you are going to school while raising a family.. That's impressive and reminds me of my days doing that. I was a single parent raising my sons (after my divorce). From 1986-1993--I worked on my Master's Degree and finally got it in 1993... That was a huge accomplishment.

Now I'm retired and married the love of my life 9 yrs ago... Silence is more a part of our lives these days than when my three sons were growing up.... ha...

But--I'm still not one for alot of silence --since I always seem to have either my radio/iPod/TV going all of the time!!!! ha

Thanks again for visiting me.
Hugs,
Betsy

As I was reading, I was thinking I should do more listening, and turn off the TV more often. Nice post! (I also went to finish my degree after my kids were in elementary school. I ended up studying too much, and missed out on some things with the kids.)

What a wonderful post! I teach at a college and sometimes when all the students leave the room, I just sit in the silence and listen. It is so incredibly quiet.

Thanks for this lovely reminder!

Ahhhh...Yes. Silence.
I am not really used to it being surrounded by 4 kiddos all day. When I do get silence...it hurts my ears (at first). But then....I want nothing but the silence.
Well...until it lasts too long.
Then I wonder where my noisemakers are;)))
Have a wonderful new week!!!!
