A little bit of this . . . from a small town

A few days ago, a few of you may have taken the time to peruse my thoughts on Silence.  After my Dad read it, he decided to put his own take on the sounds of silence.

You see, he writes a weekly column entitled From The State Line for a small paper in West Tennessee called The Paris Post Intelligencer.  Please click on the From the State Line link.  He has a God given talent and a way with words that is most uncanny.

Paris is a small town far removed from the hustle and bustle of big city life.  While I felt deprived as a child I cannot wait to go home as an adult.  Paris now has a Super Wal-Mart.  The small farming community I grew up in is called Hico, long i sound.  There's a stop sign there.  You'll find deer in abundance . . .

Twin does

Doe and buck in velvet

Fawn

 . . . and plenty of farm implements  . . .

 . . . and of course tobacco.

Why is everything so much better "back home?"  I wish I could take those feelings and bottle them to share with everyone.

I want to take a moment to honor Faye Kennedy.  She was the last living sibling of my Grandfather, Paul "Red" McClain.  Faye was 97 years old when she was returned home this week.

Can you imagine the changes she had the privilege of seeing her lifetime?

You will be remembered.

What a nice thought for your relative.Almost a century of life. Home is where your heart is, and when i return to areas I lived when I was in my first ten years they still have a charm. We moved lots when I was a kid so it is fun that I identified with each area. After leaving home and my parents moving a few more times, that home feel lost its effect, I didn't have any idenity with where they lived.

TN and KY sure are sisters/brothers aren't they? So does the super Wal-Mart sell those "Deer-be-gone" buzzer things? :)

Thanks for the bottled thought, I needed a moment in the country.

Peace be with your relative.

I love all of your photos, from the deer to that dear lady. I am 58, and have seen so many changes, yet those her age have seen lots more.

I enjoyed your dad's article, too.

Oh, and you expressed interest in the butterfly milkweed seeds on my blog. I didn't make it out before the rain and snow to see about collecting some seeds. I'll check it out in the next few days. I do have some seeds from an annual milkweed with orange flowers called, bloodflower if you are interested. Email me with your address, and I can send you both kinds if there are still some of the butterfly milkweed.
