Homemade Vanilla Extract for Christmas

Oh this is so good.  My beans have only been soaking in the vodka for a few hours and it's delish!

I used about 10 Tahitian vanilla beans from eBay and a bottle of vodka.  Sliced the beans in half and placed into a quart mason jar and covered with vodka.  It will be ready just in time to use as Christmas gifts!

This is one of my favorite home made Christmas blogs.

Nothing like getting ready early!

A new idea I had never heard of. I get a nice vanilla from Mexico, an order I place when people are going to visit. Now I see it more in the local Mexican groceries.

I have been using vodka in another way, but this has possibilities!

Vanilla Extract is darn expensive. This is a great gift idea. Thanks for the idea and how-to!

The extract has taken a nice dark color and I'm really trying hard not to take a little sip!

I just started making my own vanilla last year and LOVE it! I'll never go back to storebought:) We are not drinkers, so it was an interesting experience in the liquor store. The ladies working in there all wrote down the recipe to make their own vanilla!

This sounds like a great recipe and not hard to do. It would be a welcome gift. I probably have enough time to do it before Christmas. I'm always looking out for these kind of home made gifts.

I think the challenge will be finding the right size bottles for a good price.
